Management Team

Managing Director

Hideyuki Torii

A finance professional with a computer architect’s soul, Hideyuki Torii founded Numerical Technologies in 1998 to cater to the unique risk management needs of Japanese financial institutions. He currently serves as President of Numerical Technologies (Tokyo) and Managing Director of Numerical Technologies (Singapore).

Prior to establishing Numerical Technologies, Mr. Torii worked at Sumitomo Bank and Goldman Sachs & Co. (New York) where he gained invaluable experience in the areas of fixed-income trading, middle-office management, risk management, and ALM system architecture. As a veteran, he has witnessed a number of black swans, from the 1987 Black Monday to the recent financial crisis.

Mr. Torii has shown great interest in physics and mathematics as a child, and was greatly fascinated by the Apollo 11 mission. Later, inspired by the visions of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, he enrolled at the University of Tokyo’s premiere Computer Science program. Mr. Torii is a marathon and ultra-marathon runner; some of his favorite races are the Honolulu Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and the grueling Fuji Mountain Race.

As head of Risk Management Solutions, Mr. Tsutsui is responsible for developing strategic product initiatives that ensure Numerical Technologies is always ready to provide innovative solutions to client’s present and future requirements. As Chief Accounting Officer, he is responsible for the company’s fiscal performance.

Before joining Numerical Technologies, Mr. Tsutsui was Principal Risk Management Consultant at Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting and had been an auditor and IPO consultant at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. He started his career as a portfolio manager at Sumitomo Bank.

Mr. Tsutsui graduated from the University of Tokyo with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He is also a member of Japan Institute of Certified Accountants. Mr. Tsutsui is an exceptional tennis player with a mean forehand stroke.

He directs the Sales & Marketing and Channel Marketing & Business Development divisions of Numerical Technologies and is responsible for optimizing the company’s market share and for creating strategic partnerships with clients, distributors and resellers, and other solution providers.

Previously, Mr. Hirano was a Global Account Sales Manager (Financial Sales Group) at Digital Equipment Corporation handling a number of Digital’s major Japanese clients in the financial sector. It is in Digital that he gained exposure to VAX R&D and understood the importance of honesty in building lasting relationships. Ken Olsen, Digital Equipment Corporation founder, believed and often said that honesty is the bedrock of a person’s values.

Mr. Hirano graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Commercial Arts from the Department of Business Management at Yokohama City University. In his free time, he can be seen playing football with other Tokyo residents or off-road biking on his favorite bike, a Camber FSR 29er.
