Hideyuki Torii

Managing Director

A finance professional with a computer architect’s soul, Hideyuki Torii founded Numerical Technologies in 1998 to cater to the unique risk management needs of Japanese financial institutions. He currently serves as President of Numerical Technologies (Tokyo) and Managing Director of Numerical Technologies (Singapore).

Prior to establishing Numerical Technologies, Mr. Torii worked at Sumitomo Bank and Goldman Sachs & Co. (New York) where he gained invaluable experience in the areas of fixed-income trading, middle-office management, risk management, and ALM system architecture. As a veteran, he has witnessed a number of black swans, from the 1987 Black Monday to the recent financial crisis.

Mr. Torii has shown great interest in physics and mathematics as a child, and was greatly fascinated by the Apollo 11 mission. Later, inspired by the visions of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, he enrolled at the University of Tokyo’s premiere Computer Science program. Mr. Torii is a marathon and ultra-marathon runner; some of his favorite races are the Honolulu Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and the grueling Fuji Mountain Race.
